Direct Payments

If you have been assessed by a Social Worker as being eligible for care services from Birmingham City Council, you can choose to have your care needs met by a Direct Payment. A Direct Payment is where Birmingham City Council will make payments directly to you so that you can buy the care and support you need for yourself, rather than the council arranging it for you.

If you receive a Direct Payment, you can employ your own care worker, or make arrangements directly with a care agency. Many people find that a Direct Payment allows them to feel more in control of their care, as a Direct Payment can more flexibly meet your care needs. If you like the idea of having more control of your care, but worry about whether or not you can manage the administration of a Direct Payment, it is possible for another person or organisation to manage the Direct Payment on your behalf.
