Bromwich Wood lies adjacent to Scotland Lane, immediately north-west of Bartley Green Reservoir.
The woodland is dominated by oak with a good diversity of other trees (ash, sweet chestnut, wild cherry, alder and rowan) and shrubs species (hazel, hawthorn, blackthorn, elder, holly, guelder rose and dog rose). On summers evenings the rich scent of honeysuckle attracts moths to its pale flowers. Use a FREE app such as Pl@ntNet (https://plantnet.org) to increase the fun by identifying trees, shrubs and flowers.
Spring flowering plants, typical of ancient woodland, may be seen such as bluebell, yellow archangel and wood anemone. The scarce wood horsetail is a speciality of the reserve.
The wood has a good complement of nesting birds. Look and listen for jay, blue tit, nuthatch, treecreeper, magpie, mistle thrush, song thrush, blackbird and robin.
