Age Connects West Midlands - Friends First
The Friends First project is a city‑wide initiative led by Age Connects West Midlands (in partnership with Age UK Birmingham) that aims to reduce social isolation and help people aged 50 and over build meaningful connections across Birmingham.
Friends First project creates friendship groups across Birmingham, providing safe, warm spaces where individuals can meet others, socialise, and form lasting friendships. We support people in building confidence, staying active, and learning new skills as part of their social wellbeing.
How It Works
- Groups are facilitated by Reconnectors who help bring people together and ensure the environment is welcoming and inclusive.
- Friendship groups operate in various neighbourhoods across the city.
- The project is supported by volunteers, who help run the sessions and encourage participants to engage socially.
