Dementia Wellbeing & Befriending Service

Age UK Camden is part of the wider Age UK charity dedicated to helping everyone make the most of later life. We stand up and speak for all those who have reached later life, and also protect the long-term interests of future generations.

The over-60s is the fastest-growing group in society and there are more of us than ever before. Ageing is not an illness, but it can be challenging. At Age UK we provide services and support at a national and local level to inspire, enable and support older people.

One of the services we offer at Age UK Camden is a Dementia Wellbeing service to provide ongoing support to people living with memory loss and dementia in Camden.

How does the Dementia Befriending service work?

The Dementia Wellbeing team provide practical and emotional support to meet your needs. Following an initial home visit, we will work with you, your family or carers to produce a personalised wellbeing plan.

We will match you with a volunteer befriender who will visit you on a regular basis. This can make a difference in many ways, from helping you continue with a much-loved hobby to providing a connection with the local community - and the social interaction can help increase your wellbeing.

How to be refered to the service

To be referred to the service you need to:

  • be aged 55 plus and living in Camden,
  • have concerns around memory or diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment or dementia
  • meet one of the following - not engaged with other services (resource/day centres, lunch clubs); have limited or no support network (from family/friends); housebound; not engaged with other services but has limited or no support network (from family/friends)
