Norton Hall Children and Family Centre - Improving the social participation, confidence, skills, environmental awareness and wellbeing of disabled women through outdoor learning

This project will engage with women that have a learning disability, deaf and have a physical disability.

They will gain work experience working alongside existing Dolphin Centre and Friends of Ward End Park volunteers.

Activities will create a launchpad for a future phase.

Disabled beneficiaries will be supported by the environmental manager and forest school leaders to develop their skills and environmental knowledge. They will undertake tasks helping them connect with nature and improve Ward End Park’s blue and green spaces.

Tasks will include:

1/ Co-creation of a Terrace allotment and work on the existing allotment in Ward End Park grounds to grow produce for the Café, via weekly sessions during term time.

2/ Development of the forest school area with weekly sessions in term time: creating wildlife habitats, redeveloping the wildlife pond and planting hedge rows.

The Dolphin Centre Café will be the base for the start and end of outdoor learning sessions and where beneficiaries will get together with the volunteers to eat and socialise together during breaks and after activities.
