Woodgate Valley Country Park Bartley Green

Woodgate Valley Country Park is a 450-acre area of countryside in the centre of Bartley Green and Quinton.

The Country Park is encapsulated farmland which retains much of its rural character with mature hedgerows, species-rich grasslands, woodland and a stretch of Bourne Brook.

Woodgate Valley is reknowned for its rich landscape and wildlife which has survived the urbanisation of the surrounding area. The damp meadow areas have an especially rich flora and produce wonderful summer displays of flowers including several types of orchid, buttercup, meadowsweet, cuckoo-flower and meadow crane’s bill. The meadows and hedges attract many butterfly species such as red admiral, orange-tip, gatekeeper and comma. Numerous bird species have been recorder including skylark, redwing, and green woodpecker.

On the Bourne Brook water voles, which are now rare in most parts of the surrounding countryside, have been found. Otters have returned to the valley after many years of absence.
