Erdington Asian Women's Society

Asian women's support group providing coffee and conversation, bereavement support, befriending, trips and more.  The Erdington Asian Women's Organisation has been running since 1988. It initially began as a once a week session held on Monday evenings as all members were working women with young families. From its inception, we've organised a lot of activities and invited many varying key note speakers, who have provided members with vital information, key learnings and valuable skills.  The membership demographic now comprises of either retired or nearing retirement age; therefore our requirements are now very different to when we first started.  Many of our members suffer from differing ailments; and half of them are widowed ladies. In this regards, the Organisation acts as a self bereavement counselling and support platform for all concerned.  Every week starts off with an hour of exercise. We then spend around an hour discussing general topics which affect our daily lives and we discuss ways on how we can help each other with our respective health issues.  As well as jointly celebrating each members' birthday throughout the course of the year, we also ensure we observe all key faith celebration events as well i.e. Christmas, Diwali, Eid and Vaisakhi. We also undertake 3 to 4 excursions every year i.e. day trips or weekends away - which members make personal contributions towards.
