GrandSharents

GrandSharents is a weekly stay and play group for grandparents and their grandchildren.
We offer three 1.5 hour sessions per week.

Tuesday
9:15AM - 12:00PM

The group combines the benefits of stay and play, facilitated childcare, early years craft sessions and support groups. Sessions feature: “Free play” components, including toys and sensory equipment, curated to a different theme each week. Songs and storytelling, including songs unique to GrandSharents and classic nursery rhymes, stories and games. “Nana makes” craft activities for grandparents to do with their grandchildren, and/or get inspiration for things to do with them at home. The opportunity for grandparents to share experiences and advice. Wherever possible we use store-cupboard ingredients and re/upcycled materials. Benefits for children include:
• Experience of sensory, imaginative, heuristic and free play.
• Opportunity to socialise with peers and combat isolation caused by the covid-19 pandemic.
• Activities that support development milestones and the EYFS framework. Benefits for grandparents include:
• Access to a support network of grandparent carers – the only such provision in the area.
• An opportunity to explore the unique challenges of “grandparenting”.
• Re-ignition of creativity, skills and confidence.
• Increased availability of community activity tailored to older adults.
