Cerebral Palsy Midlands - Access for All

#Prevention and Communities Grants Programme
Supporting citizens who have Cerebral Palsy
, relating conditions and communication difficulties. To combat social isolation and to support citizens wellbeing whilst maintaining independence and quality of life.

The project enhances personal experiences for citizens who access our day service, by giving a bespoke personal experience. Access for all promotes access and inclusion to citizens by going out into the community.  This could be anything from shopping, swimming, bowling, restaurants, horse riding, medical appointments etc. The project supports individuals and small groups to do what they want to do and how they want to spend their day.

We achieve this by utilising our resources of specially adapted vehicles, qualified professional staff and trained volunteers.

Past evidences  and personal experiences have proven the needs and wants of our citizens. Citizens want to go out into the community and enjoy themselves.  The project has also succeeded in promoting independence for some as citizens have been able to access appointments and do their own personal shopping.  This also at times takes pressure off families and carers, giving them a break.

The project is practical and a face-to-face service. One to one support and two to one support is provided. The service is part funded by Birmingham city council, any extra funding is supported by Cerebral Palsy Midlands, fundraising events and trust applications.  Depending on the activity there can be additional costs for the citizen e.g. eating out, swimming, the cinema.  These costs are personal expenses for anyone accessing amenities.

Pub lunches throughout the duration of the project October 2023 to September 2026. The activity is user led and popular. There is an additional cost, depending on what citizens buy when out and about.

Swimming throughout the duration of the project October 2023 to September 2026
. The activity usually requires at least one to one care providedAdditional cost is the price of a swimming session. Due to heavy resource requirements these activities are planned in advance. The activity operates from the Cerebral Palsy Centre in Harborne, Birmingham, B17 0AQ.
