OSCAR - Befriending and Peer Support

OSCAR Birmingham is a voluntary organisation whose aim is to help improve the quality of health, social and economic well-being for children, young people, families, and adults living with Sickle Cell Anaemia and Thalassaemia blood disorders. We are a free city-wide service, supported by Birmingham City Council, aimed at adults affected by Sickle Cell or Thalassaemia disorder experiencing loneliness and social isolation.
We run a Befriending and Peer Support Service provides support sessions and opportunities for citizens to come together with lived experiences, to connect, share, and learn new ways to better manage their health and wellbeing. We offer social and health workshops, cultural activities and befriending support for citizens who may be vulnerable due to fluctuation of their health condition. This service is for citizens aged 18 years and over, including their friends and carers affected by Sickle Cell and/or Thalassaemia blood disorder.
We run monthly peer and drop-in sessions taking place on a Wednesday each month between 12-3pm at our centre in Jewellery Quarter. Social and health workshops taking place bi-monthly. Contact us for more details for workshops.
