Fall Management Exercise Prevention Programme

FaME (Falls Management Exercise) is an evidence-based programme to help older adults prevent falls, boost confidence, and improve strength, balance, and overall fitness. It targets age-related changes in reaction time, flexibility, coordination, and strength.

The programme is led by a qualified Postural Stability Instructor and begins with a personal health and function assessment. It runs for 24 weeks, with 1-hour weekly group classes and simple home exercises twice a week. Sessions use resistance bands, steps, mats, and light equipment to improve mobility and balance.

FaME is for adults 65+ who are at risk of falling, have a fear of falling, have experienced a fall (with no ongoing medical issues), or notice changes in balance, and who live independently.

The programme includes progressive leg, core, and arm strength training, balance and flexibility work, endurance, walking, bone-strengthening exercises, floor skills to get up safely, and adapted Tai Chi.

Sessions are on Tuesdays at 2:00 pm at Allens Cross Community Centre, Tinkers Farm Road, B31 1RG. Limited transport support is available. To join or learn more, contact the centre.
