West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) provide Safe and Well visits free-of-charge to households in the West Midlands area where fire risk is identified.
What are ‘Safe and Well’ visits?
Safe and Well visits aim to improve fire safety in the home and offer security advice.
WMFS personnel will visit the home to check there are no immediate fire hazards, and fit smoke alarms and other specialist equipment where these are needed.
WMFS prioritise their Safe and Well visits, with a focus on the most vulnerable people in our communities. Individuals who are at greatest risk of fire include:
- Over 65
- Living alone
- Smoker
- Drugs and Alcohol abuse
- Mental health condition
- Mobility / Sensory impairment
- Lone parent of a young child or children
- Living on a low income and/or in a socially deprived area
