Safe and Well Visits by West Midlands Fire Service

West Midlands Fire Service

West Midlands Fire Service (WMFS) provide Safe and Well visits free-of-charge to households in the West Midlands area where fire risk is identified.

What are ‘Safe and Well’ visits?

Safe and Well visits aim to improve fire safety in the home and offer security advice.

WMFS personnel will visit the home to check there are no immediate fire hazards, and fit smoke alarms and other specialist equipment where these are needed.

WMFS prioritise their Safe and Well visits, with a focus on the most vulnerable people in our communities. Individuals who are at greatest risk of fire include:

  • Over 65
  • Living alone
  • Smoker
  • Drugs and Alcohol abuse
  • Mental health condition
  • Mobility / Sensory impairment
  • Lone parent of a young child or children
  • Living on a low income and/or in a socially deprived area

How do I request a Safe and Well visit?

To apply for a Safe and Well visit from WMFS, complete the request form available from this link: https://www.wmfs.net/our-services/safe-and-well/safe-and-well-referral/

(Please enter ‘Partner ID 4219’ in the Additional Comments box).

For those not online, call the team for free on 0800 389 5525 during office hours.

Staff in WMFS Home Safety Centre will carefully assess each request and identify people who most need the service. Where risk is minimal, you may be directed to self-help support from a Safe and Well handbook or advice on their website, allowing fire crews to direct their time where most urgently needed.
