People For People CIC- Essential advice for the Romanian-speaking community
Bi-weekly support sessions for the Romanian community at Unity Hubb. The scope of support will include, but not be limited to:
- Private tenants’ rights
- Applying for council housing
- Resolving issues with council tax, applying for discounts and reductions
- Reporting disrepair to private and social landlords
- Resolving issues with bill payments, incl. council tax
- Accessing disability benefits, including DLA, PIP, and Attendance Allowance
- Supporting the 'hidden carers' in the community by signposting them to organisations providing specialist support, helping apply for Carers Allowance, etc.
- Supporting community members in managing their Universal Credit
- Assisting members in proving right to work and registering on jobsites
- Referring complex cases to organisations that can offer legal support (Central England Law Centre, Community Law Partnership, etc.) where applicable;
- Applying for Blue Badges, concessionary travel passes for seniors and people with disability
- Assisting people with no recourse to public funds through referring them for homelessness assistance via BCC and non-profit organisations
- Signposting individuals to services that can provide support in Romanian or provide interpreting;
- Providing information in an accessible way, ensuring the 'why' behind the regulations is clear and leads to improved understanding of the rights of the community as migrants in the UK, but also Birmingham residents.
- Signposting to support to seek legal employment
The sessions will be hosted between 11:00am and 2:00 pm on Fridays on a bi-weekly basis in a relaxed café-style environment with drinks and light refreshments provided.
